Post image for Six True Blue Candidates Elected! Thanks!

The 2009 ASUO Elections finally came to a close, and the True Blue Student Coalition is happy to announce that six members of our team were elected into office!

Four members of True Blue were elected to represent students in the ASUO Senate: Paige Libasidos in Senate Seat 4 (representing the EMU Board); Jeremy Blanchard in Senate Seat 10 (representing the Department Finance Committee); Zach Stark-MacMillan (representing all science majors); and Christina Ergas (representing all graduate and law school students). In addition, Chase Kahmann and Peter Ewbank were both elected to sit on the board of the Student Recreation Center. We’re excited to see all of these student representatives getting to work to “make student government matter”!

The general election also saw tremendous success for the members of the three campaigns that joined forces to fight for ethical leadership and broad student representation. Emma and Getachew were elected to be the 2009-2010 ASUO President and Vice-President, and members of Students First won all but one of the other Senate seats up for election. We congratulate everyone from our coalition who was elected, and look forward to working with them to achieve our common vision of quality student government.

While the elections are over, we hope that everyone will continue to be involved with the ASUO and all of its associated programs. There will be plenty of jobs to be filled within the ASUO in the weeks ahead, and we strongly encourage you to check out the ASUO website to see if one of them might be right for you! We were successful in electing student representatives, but student government will only truly work with the cooperation and participation of all students. We hope you’ll keep working with us to improve our campus community – we’ll be reaching out to you as much as we can to help make those improvements a reality.
